Little Owl
Name Owain
Species: Little Owl.

Owain had a litte problem of being fiesty but now tilts his head and enjoys a tickle under the 'ear'.Owain (a captive bred bird) was given to the owner of the Rescue Centre when
he was only 3 or 4 days old and not expected to survive. She cared for him
and eventually successfully reared him. In fact she was the first
person/thing that he saw when he opened his eyes and so he is devoted to
her.

Species: Barn Owl.
Born: 2002
She was rescued when she was just 6 weeks old. The previous owner decided that after all they did not want theresponsibility of looking after her. She regularly goes out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows and Farmer's Markets. She enjoys going out on the trips to shows and enjoys being photographed. Species: Barn Owl.

Hero is a captive bred male Barn Owl He was rescued when he was 4 weeks old. The previous owner decided that they did not want him. He regularly goes out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows and Farmer’s Markets. At home he likes to live in the kitchen as this is where he started off as a baby. Athena is a captive bred Female Barn Owl and born 2005 She was born at the rescue centre but was quite a surprise. Two ‘male’ barn owls had been sharing a flight aviary for approx 4 years and suddenly produced eggs! Approx 2 % of female barn owls have no spots on their breasts the same as males! So in this case two males turned into 1 Female & 1 Male. Athena is very intelligent and regularly goes out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows and Farmer’s Markets. She enjoys going out on the trips to shows and meeting people.

Casper is a captive bred male Barn Owl and he will be 1 year old in spring 2007. He was born at the rescue centre to two of the rescued captive bred Barn Owls that have settled so well they have become a breeding pair. He is will soon start to go out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows and Farmer's Markets. At home he likes to think he is the 'Boss' despite being the youngest Barn Owl in residence and that he is still learning how to sit on a perch properly.

Josephine is a captive bred female Scandinavian Tawny Owl and born 2004. She was rescued when she was 6 months old. The previous owner decided that they did not want her and took her to the Northern Owl Sanctuary in Lincolnshire. As they were full they passed her onto Hereford Owl Rescue. She has shown to be rather temperamental and feisty but is gradually getting acclimatised to her new surroundings.

Napoleon is a captive bred male Tawny Owl and born April 2004 . He was rescued when he was 6 months old. The previous owner decided that they did not want him. They had kept him in a cage, with no perch, that was far too small and he lost his tail feathers and his wing tips. These started to re-grow when he had his first moult in the spring. He doesn’t like flying and hops around everywhere. When you talk to him he blinks his eyes in answer to you, which can look quite amusing

Herculina is an Eastern European Eagle Owl and she will be approx. 5yrs old in 2007. She was rescued in 2003 when she came from a private address in Nottingham, where she was living in a conservatory. Her owners were too frightened to handle her and just threw her food in every day. When she first arrived it was thought she was a male so was called Hercules but then we realised that she must be a female as she was so large. She regularly goes out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows which she enjoys

Name Khan
Species:Turkmenian Eagle Owl.
Born:
Dead: Jan 2007
Khan is a male Turkmenia Eagle Owl and he will be 40 yrs old in April 2006. He was rescued in 2001 having been badly ill treated. He regularly goes out with the Owl Rescue stand to shows and Farmer’s Markets but does not like people to get too close, although, he was actually introduced to Her Majesty the Queen at Ludlow in July 2003 and behaved impeccably. Khan is the Oldest Owl at the centre.
Unfortunally Merlin past away as he was poisoned by eating a baby toad that had squeezed through the wire into his aviary and toads are very poisonous. The Vet could do nothing to save him.
Name: Merlin
Species: Snowy Owl.
Born: 2004
Merlin is a captive bred Male Snowy Owl and he is 2 years old. He was given to the Rescue Centre. The previous owner was unable, through ill health, to continue looking after Merlin and wanted him to go to a good home. Merlin is very gentle and enjoys going out on the trips to shows. He also enjoys being photographed.
